Chlordane is the best control; its toxicity is twice that of malathion and it penetrates skin. A68-583; A76-14; use chlordane or submerge pot in water for 10 to 15 minutes. F78-66; most ant sprays contain kerosene or petroleum derivatives up to 90% and can burn plants. C73-53

Ants drive away the predators of soft scales, spider mites, mealybugs, aphids, etc.; use Baygone, Dursban and Diaz inon; spray on bench legs, outside greenhouse walls, etc. A85-1435; AH86-57

Ants foster spread of aphids, mealeybugs and soft scales; use chlordane or diazinon sprays on bench legs and wall bases inside and outside; use different sprays if ants are established in potting medium. AH10; N329; S189

Chlordane was formerly used but is now banned in the U.S.; a Diazinon drench is less effective. A85-1435; OIE85Sept-1

Last Bite and killer granules eliminate ants; some products may be limited in some states. OIE85My-15

Use "409 Cleaner", one quart to two gallons of water, spray on plants; safe for both plants and growers. OIE85Jan-16

Use RoachProof, available at most hardware stores. OIE87Jan-16
