ORIGIN: Found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and northern Peru along the cordillera oriental at elevations of 1800 to 3300 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Large to giant sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial and rarely epiphytic orchid with a cane-like, basally terete, slightly laterally compressed towards the apex, erect, straight, branching when mature, new stem aries from the subapical nodes of the previous stem and carrying about 14 on the main stem, all along the stem, articulate, alternate, similar in size, [smaller on the branches], lanceolate, obtuse, margin denticulate towards the apex leaves that blooms at most any time of the year, on a terminal, racemose, occurring only once, peduncle terete, green, sometimes scarcely tinged with purple, .4 to .6 [1 to 1.5 cm] long, pyramidal, helicodial, laxly successively few, 11 to 30 flowered inflorescence with, small, shorter than the ovary, diminishing in size towards the apex, narrowly triangular, acute, amplexicaul floral bracts and carrying non-resupinate, fleshy flowers that are pale greyish lilac, the lip white, the column bicolored, with the base green and becoming deep purple apically.
