ORIGIN: Found in Cauca and Valle de Cauca departments of Colombia, in montane broadleaf forests at elevations of 1700 to 2600 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial or lithophyte with branching when mature, cane-like, terete, erect, straight stems carrying numerous on the main stem, alternate, all along the stem, narrowly elliptic, acute to subacute, margin entire, slightly revolute leaves that blooms in the later spring though late fall on a terminal, without a spathe, racemose, erect, occurring only once, peduncle 1.6 to 1.72” [4 to 4.3 cm] long, terete, erect, straight, with a widely triangular, acute median bract, rachis 13.2 to 13.6” [33 to 34 cm] long, terete, gradually thinner towards the apex, simultaneously 19 to 21 flowered inflorescence with prominent, slightly longer than the ovary, progressively shorter above, triangular, acute, amplexicaul floral bracts and carrying non-resupinate, fleshy, scarlet flowers that turn greyish brown after the pollina is extracted.
