ORIGIN: Found in Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Niger, Gulf of Guinea Islands, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Zaire, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Moambique and Zimbabwe in high rainfall woodlands, submontane grasslands, riverine fringe forests and pine plantations at elevations of 700 to 1200 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Mini-miniature sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with a globose tuber giving rise to a prostrate to suberect, reniform, very cordate, obscurely 7 angled, glabrous, shiny green above, sometimes tesselated with silver, more or less striped violet on margins and veins beneath, shortly petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect, terete, violet purple, single, fragrant flowered inflorescence that lengthens from 3.46 to 8.4 [8.6 to 21 cm] after the flowers fade and the fruit grows.
