(sumatranum x vanvuurenii)
Cross:
Bulb. sumatranum x vanvuurenii
Description: A primary hybrid of two eye-catching Bulbophyllum species. The vegetative growth is identical to both parents, being small epiphytes with little to no space between pseudobulbs and carry a single elliptic leaf. The blooms are orange with red striations present on all petals except the lip. The mobile lip is orange with nearly black spots. Because of the B. vanvuurenii parent, this plant will bloom with as many as two flowers per inflorescence. Flowers last just under a week and have no discernable fragrance.
Culture: I grow this with all my other bulbs under 78% shade cloth. In the dry season, I water just about every day and during the winter I can reduce the watering to about 2-3 times a week. I fertilize my bulbs every other week with 1/4 strength MSU fertilizer. This plant tends to initiate blooms after I forget to fetilize.
