The May 2005 Show "Orchids on the Promenade" was held in San Fernando
The Show was very successful with an excellent display of flowering orchids and good attendance despite somewhat rainy weather.
The Trophy for Best Orchid in Show was awarded to Grammatpohylum scriptum 'Claudina' AM TTOS owned by Dale and Percil Boyce. Culture notes are provided by Dale .
"They are grown under 50% shade and very significantly, they see the sun for the duration of daylight hours. (North-south Greenhouse).
In January 2005 the watering schedule was reduced to once per week (thereby allowing the plants to dry out). The temperature range around this time is about 32 deg C in the day and approx.22 deg C at night with a constant Easterly breeze during the day. They were fed with a balanced formula 1Tblsp per Gallon once every 2 weeks for the months of January and February. At the end February they were fed with one application of a formula high in phosphorus.(1Tblsp / gallon) Flower spikes emerged in mid March. Thereafter the plants were watered sparingly and given a very dilute (1 tsp / gallon) balanced formula once per 3 weeks.
The Trophy was donated and presented to Percil by Mayor of San Fernando Ian Atherly. Chief Judge Gopaul Chacan looks on.
