OrchidWiz: Which Country has the Most Orchid Species?

With OrchidWiz, you can find what countries have the greatest number of naturally occurring orchid species.  To do this, from the Start screen, click the button "Areas":

As you can see from the the resulting screen (tab "All Areas"), it is almost a statistical tie between Ecuador and Colombia, two countries that border each other.  With many orchid species in remote areas still to be discovered, it is impossible to tell which country has the most species.  Both Ecuador and Colombia contain an extensive number of different habitats caused by the tropical high elevations.  Slight differences in elevation, orientation of the mountain slopes, availability of nearby water (creeks, rivers), exposure to wind and other natural elements, all can be responsible for the occurrence of an orchid micro-habitat.

Costa Rica has only 51 Sq km. if you analyze which country has more orchids per sq Km, there it is Costa Rica with double quantity than Ecuador.. .! Costa Rica is the country that has more orchids per sq km, or sq miles.

I think you mean 51,000 Sq. km. You are right, that is a more appropriate measure. If you go trying to find orchids in the wild, you might be more successful in Costa Rica. Not too mention the terrain in Ecuador can be challenging.
