As you can see from the the resulting screen (tab "All Areas"), it is almost a statistical tie between Ecuador and Colombia, two countries that border each other. With many orchid species in remote areas still to be discovered, it is impossible to tell which country has the most species. Both Ecuador and Colombia contain an extensive number of different habitats caused by the tropical high elevations. Slight differences in elevation, orientation of the mountain slopes, availability of nearby water (creeks, rivers), exposure to wind and other natural elements, all can be responsible for the occurrence of an orchid micro-habitat.
