ORIGIN: Found in the Chinese Himalayas, Assam, eastern Himalayas, India, Andaman Islands, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam in tropical valleys, broad leaved forests and thickets at elevations of 610 to 1800 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Medium to large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with an ellipsoid, pubescent tuber giving rise to a leafy arounf the middle, bracteate above stems with linear-lanceolate, long acuminate, sheaths and carrying 4 to 5, ovate-elliptic, acute, narrowing below into the short, channeled petiolate base leaves grading above into 2 to 8, spreading to suberect, lanceolate, acuminate, sterile bracts that blooms in the late spring and early summer on a glabrous, 2 to 7.6 [5 to 19 cm] long, subdensely to laxly many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acuminate floral bracts.
