DESCRIPTION: Found in the western everglades in Florida, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, French Guyana, Surinam, Guyana, Venezuela, Ecuador and Brazil in moist montane forests as a leafless, monopodial, hot to cool growing epiphyte at elevations of sea level to 1400 meters that bloom in the late winter and spring with an erect, to 1 1/2 [3.75 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with prominent reddish brown bracts giving rise to inverted, 2 ranked flowers appearing on both sides of the rachis, that arise from the center of the root ball.
