ORIGIN: Found in Oaxaca state of Mexico in wet montane forests at elevations around 500 to 670 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Large to giant sized, warm growing lithophyte on granite outcrops with thick, laterally compressed, 6 to 17 noded stems enveloped by scarious, whitish, tight sheaths and carrying 6 to 12, ensiform, deciduous, coriaceous, subfleshy, green-purple, all along the upper half of the stem, acute leaves that blooms in the fall on a terminal, erect, paniculate, originally racemose but produces a few, lax branches, peduncle, elongate, terete, thin, green-purple, enveloped by tubular, scarious, strongly compressed, imbricate bracts, 11.8 to 24 [29 to 60 cm] long, to more than 30 flowered inflorescence with triangular-ovate, acute-acuminate, lightly cucullate, scarious-papery, greenish pink floral bracts.
