ORIGIN: Found in northern Ecuador on the western side of the Andes at elevations around 3190 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with cane-like, terete, erect, straight stems branching above in mature plants, main stem much taller than branches, basally enveloped by tubular, minutely striated, rugose sheaths and carrying 12 on the main stem, all along the apical half, 3 on the branches, distichous, articulate, erect spreading, subcoriaceous, oblong-lanceolate, sub obtuse, low dorsal keel, margin entire leaves that blooms in the earlier winter on a terminal, erect, occurring only once, racemose, arching-nutant, peduncle short, terete, thin, with a widely triangular bract, rachis straight, laxly successively 13 flowered inflorescence with small, half as long as the ovary, triangular-lanceolate, acuminate, amplexicaul floral bracts and carrying fleshy, resupinate, apple green, sepals tinged with purple, not fragrant flowers.
