ORIGIN: Found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia in wet montane forests along the Cordillera Oriental at elevations of 1500 to 3100 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Medium to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with branching when mature, cane-like, basally terete, slightly laterally compressed above stems carrying numerous [21] on the main stem, 5 to 8 on the branches, all along the apical half of the stem, articulate, distichous, lustrous, lanceolate, obtuse, margin denticulate towards the apex leaves that blooms in the late spring through fall on a terminal, racemose, without a spathe, occurring only once, peduncle .2 to .4” [5 to 10 mm] long, laterally compressed, straight, rachis [6 to 11 cm] long, terete, thin, straight, simultaneously 11 to 30 flowered inflorescence with small, shorter tha n the ovary, narrowly triangular, acute, amplexicaul floral bracts and carrying non-resupinate, fleshy, green to greenish white flowers.
