ORIGIN: Found in southern Ecuador through central Peru along the Cordillera Oriental of the Andes at elevations of 2120 to 2565 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Large sized, cold growing terrestrial or epiphyte with branching subapically with maturity, branches shorter, cane-like, terete, erect, straight stems carrying 13 on the main stem, 5 to 6 on the branches, laxly spaeced, articulate, alternate, spreading, linear-lanceolate, obtuse, minutely apiculate, margin entire, slightly revolute leaves that blooms in the fall on a terminal, without a spathe, racemose, suberect, occurring only once, peduncle .6” [1.5 cm] long, terete, erect, straight, rachis 7.4” [18.5 cm] long, terete, gradually thinner towards the apex, successively few, 17 flowered inflorescence with slightly shorter than the ovary, gradually smaller above, triangular, acuminate, amplexicaul floral bracts and carrying non-resupinate, fleshy, dark green flowers with a purple green lip becoming orange after the pollina has been removed.
