Orchid Species: Pterostylis hamiltonii
(This name is currently accepted by Kew.)
Pterostylis hamiltonii is an orchid species identified by Nicholls in 1933.
ORIGIN: Found in Western Australia at elevations of 150 to 300 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Miniature sized, cold to cool growing terrestrial with globose tubers giving rise to an erect stem completely enveloped by narrowly ovate, acute, basally clasping leaves going up the stem when in bloom and a basal rosette of ground hugging, blusish green leaves, that blooms in the fall and winter on an erect, 4 [10 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence that has flowers that get redder with age.
FLOWER SIZE: 2 inches [5 cm]
