SOUTHERN BLIGHT: Sclerotium Rolfsii It frequently attacks orchids and is commonly known as Crown rot; it is widespread in warmer areas; a rapid collapse and rotting of roots, pseudobulbs, lower parts of leaves which show cream-yellow then turn brown; the tan, tiny sclerotia is diagnostic; affected plants must be destroyed; treat containers and potting media with a 4% formalin solution; dip the plants for 60 minutes in Natriphene or 8-Quinolinol at the rate of 1 to 2000 water.
