Notes:
Flora Peculia is dedicated to the promotion of Neofinetia falcata and Japanese orchids in Canada and around the world. The goal is to search out, bring for sale and grow species of Japanese orchids, including Neofinetia falcata, Sedirea japonica, Dendrobium moniliforme and Japanese Cymbidium goeringii. We have over 100 varieties, all grown and presented in the traditional Japanese way.
For the beginner reading this, Neofinetia falcata is a culture unto itself in Japan. This one species has over 2300 varieties listed as well as having an entire society devoted to its culture. In a nutshell, the species comes in a variety of forms including flower colour and shape, marginal, stripe and tiger variegation and bean leaf varieties that can be very super-mini. The bean leaf varieties come in fascinating shapes and growth patterns. Fukiran is appreciated for the plant and desirable by many collectors who appreciate the plant itself even if there are no blooms.
The name Fukiran is used by the Japanese for the varieties of Neofinetia falcata and literally means ‘rich noble orchid’. The cultivation has a long history originating in the Edo era of japan (400 years ago) It is my goal to help you to continue the rich tradition of Fukiran growing.. These plants are truly different from any other orchid as each has its own character even within the same variety.
