A fungus Sclerotium rolfsii affects many orchids especially cymbidiums and phalaenopsis; the stem base turns light yellow then dark brown and spreads to roots and leaves; it thrives above 85 deg.F.; cut out diseased portions; immerse in Natriphene. N316; S202

Fungus disease caused by Sclerotium rolfsii; attacks base of plant, spreads to roots and upper parts; they turn yellow then dark brown; white mycelium can be seen on stems and basal sheathing leaves; hard round small bodies called sclerotia are formed by the mycelium; they can carry the disease to other plants; cut out the rot and treat plant with Natriphene.
