Persons handling peat moss can contract sporotrichosis an unpleasant fungus infection which can enter the skin through nicks and abrasions, or be inhaled; the first is usually mild and is treated with oral doses of iodine solution strictly measured; the second is treated with an anti-fungal antibiotic called amphotericin-B.
