Autogamy is one type of self-pollination and occurs in an open flower where pollen is transferred to the stigma without an intermediary or pollinator; cleistogamy is the other type and occurs in an unopened flower; Encyclia cochleata var. triandrum and Epidendrum rigidum are examples of autogamy.
