Using a sex indicator as used to determine sex of chicken eggs (inch-and-a-half metallic cone, or needle) attached to long silk thread, cattleya plants registered as either "male" or "female" consistently through several tests; all presumably diploids, no triploids tested; significance for breeding unknown.
