ORIGIN: Found in Caucasus, Transcaucasian region, Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Ukraine (Crimea). This rare species grows in light oak forests, under the shrubs, dry meadows and rocky places in calcareous soils in mountainous regions up to 550 meters above sea level.

DESCRIPTION: Miniature to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with ovate bulbs and only one elliptic, olive-green or bronze colored leaf 7-12 cm long and 1-2 bracts on the 20-40 cm tall stem, reddish at the full sun. Inflorescence occurs in the spring and consists of 4- 20 small (1-1, 5 cm in diameter), non fragrant flowers which vary in colour from completely terracotta-red in sunny places to pale green with purple lip in shadow.
