ORIGIN: Found in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru at elevations 1600 to 3800 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Small to large sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with slender to stout, erect ramicauls with a loose tubular sheath near the middle and 2 to 3 loose, imbricating others at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the spring on a few to many, more or less secund, 4 to 12 [10 to 30 cm] long including the .8 to 2 [2 to 5 cm] long peduncle, densely, simultaneously many flowered inflorescence arising through a broad, foliaceous spathe from an annulus adjacent to the abscission layer.
