Orchid Species: Bulbophyllum pileatum

Bulbophyllum pileatum is an orchid species identified by Lindl. in 1844.
ORIGIN: Found in Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra at elevations of sea-level to 1000 in swamp forests on mature mangrove trees.
DESCRIPTION: Miniature sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with slender, cylindrical pseudobulbs spaced 1 5/8 to 3 1/8 apart and ringed basally by stiff bristles and carries a single apical, narrowed gradually at both ends and basally into a short petiole leaf that booms in the winter through summer on an erect, 2 1/10 [6 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising directly from the rhizome away from and or from a pseudobulb base carrying fragrant flowers.
