ORIGIN: This small to medium sized, hot growing, unifoliate epiphyte and ocassional terrestrial occurs in Sumatra, Java, Borneo and the Philippines in hill and lower montane forests or dense riverine forests at elevations of 600 to 1800 meters.

DESCRIPTION: This small to medium sized, hot growing, unifoliate epiphyte and ocassional terrestrial occurs in Sumatra, Java, Borneo and the Philippines in hill and lower montane forests or dense riverine forests at elevations of 600 to 1800 meters and has slender, erect, terete and slightly flattened, cylindrical pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, oblong, leathery, petiolate leaf that blooms in the spring and summer on an erect, 5 [12.5 cm] long inflorescence with conspicuous sheaths, giving rise to a single [if more than one then you probably have what was known as B sociale], foul smelling - sometimes pleasant, fleshy, flowers that do not open fully.
