ORIGIN: Found in the Xizang Province of China, western Himalayas, Assam, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, Myanmar and Vietnam at elevations of 800 to 2600 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Small sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte with .4 to .8 between each ovoid, erect, green pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, oblanceolate, obtuse, minutely retuse apically, gradually narrowing below into the channeled petiolate base and blooms on a slender, basal, lateral, 6 to 8 [15 to 20 cm] long, purple umbellate inflorescence occurring in the summer and fall with a few flowers held just above the leaves. A hot growing epiphyte that needs partial shade, good air movement and high humidity for good growth. This species is very similar to B umbellatae but differs in it's spotted flower, an inflorescence that is longer than the leaves and has long-caudate stellida.
