Orchid Species: Coelogyne odoratissima

Coelogyne odoratissima is an orchid species identified by Lindl. in 1830.
ORIGIN: Found in southern India and Sri Lanka in subtropical lower and upper montane forests at elevations of 1000 to 2700 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with clustered, ovoid to almost round pseudobulbs enveloped basally by basal sheaths and carrying 2, apical, membraneous, shape variable, elliptic-lanceolate, acute, plicate, 5 nerved, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late summer and fall on a synanthous, slender, basal, erect, 2 to 4 [5 to 10 cm] long, simultaneously 2 to 5 flowered inflorescence with persistent floral bracts and carrying waxy, fragrant flowers.
