Coelogyne yunnanensis is an orchid species identified by Rolfe in 1903. Culture information and photos for this orchid are commonly detailed under the currently accepted name of Pleione yunnanensis.
ORIGIN: Found in southwestern China in the state of Yunnan in grassy subalpine meadows, under rhododendron shrubs in deep leaf litter, among rocks in shady locations and in open pine forests at elevations of 1100 to 3500 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Miniature sized, cold to cool growing terrestrial with squat, conical pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, deciduous, lanceolate to elliptic, narrowly acuminate leaves with a petiole that blooms on an erect, basal, 4 to 8 [10 to 20 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence that has scarious bracts and arises basally on a mature pseudobulb before the new growth appears, occurring in the late winter and spring.
