ORIGIN: Found in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, and western Argentina in cloud forests at elevations around 1200 to 2800 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Miniature to small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with a few basal, matte clear green with dark green, elliptic, acute, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late winter and again in the fall on an erect, purple, narrow, peduncle, remotely several sheathed, glabrous below, pubescent above, to 18 [45 cm] long, cylindric rachis, to 6 [15 cm] long, loosely to subdensely many [40] flowered inflorescence.
