Orchid Species: Dendrochilum cootesii

Dendrochilum cootesii is an orchid species identified by H.A.Pedersen in 1997.
ORIGIN: This miniature sized, cool growing species is endemic to the Philippines at elevations around 1200 to 2000 meters on mossy tree trunks at the edges of montane cloud forests.
DESCRIPTION: This miniature sized, cool growing species is endemic to the Philippines at elevations around 1200 to 2000 meters on mossy tree trunks at the edges of montane cloud forests with dark green, wrinkled pseudobulbs that at times can be curved and carrying a single, apical, leathery leaf with a prominent mid-vein and blooms in the winter on a gracefully arching, to 3 3/4 [to 9 cm] long inflorescence that in its infancy appears to be a rattlesnake tail and arises with a new growth and carries cream colored flowers that twist around the inflorescence.
