ORIGIN: Found in Great Britain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Yugoslavia and Greece in shady locations in young beechwoods forest on moist, calcareous soils.
DESCRIPTION: Small to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial orchid with a thick, flexuous, sometimes sterile, pubescent towards the apex stem carrying 3 to 10, cauline, yellowish-green, spreading, curved down, margins undulate, with fine to irregular serrated leaves, and median, oval-lanceolate leaves as well as the upper narrowly lanceolate leaves that blooms on a terminal, 2.8 to 12 [7 to 30 cm] long, laxly many [8 to 35] flowered inflorescence arising in the late spring and summer.
