ORIGIN: Found in Zaire, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Angola and Zimbabwe in woodlands and scrub usually among rocks on hillsides or in rocky soils at elevations around 900 to 1680 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Small to medium sized, warm to cool growing, semi-mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with subterranean, fleshy, rhizomatous, cigar shaped tubers giving rise to vestigal, brown leaves that blooms in the late spring and early summer on 1 to 3, erect, yellow green, with 4 to 5, imbricate, scarious, basal sheaths and another in the middle, 8 to 16 [25 to 40 cm] long, laxly to densely many flowered inflorescence with linear-setose floral bracts and carrying violet scented flowers.
