ORIGIN: Found in Ivory Coast, Zaire, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Transvaal South Africa in wet bog verges at elevations of 900 to 2100 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Medium to giant sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial with a subterranean, irregularily cylindrical tubers in chains giving rise to 4 to 7, in a fan, slightly succulent, conduplicate in youth, linear, acuminate leaves that blooms in later winter and early spring 1 to 2, arising before the leaves, rhachis 2.8 to 9.2 [7 to 23 cm] long, few to several flowered inflorescence with 5 to 6, papery bracts along the length and linear-lanceolate, acuminate floral bracts.
