ORIGIN: Found in the Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, southern China, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, New Guinea and the Philippines in damp shade locales in rocky soils of tropical rain, seasonal evergreen, evergreen hill and mixed deciduous forests and montane slopes at elevations around 40 to 1700 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with an elongate rhizome giving rise to an erect, pale, purplish brown stem carrying 3 to 6, cauline, widely spaced, withered or pendulous at blooming, pale green, ovate to elliptic, obtuse to acute, sometimes ciliate margined, narrowing below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter through summer on an erect, pubescent, 5 to 10 [12.5 to 25 cm] long, laxly to subdensely 3 to 10+ flowered inflorescence with 2 to 3 sterile bracts and pale red, pubescent abaxially and on the margin, ovate-lanceolate, long acuminate, shorter than the ovary and carrying resupinate, puberulent flowers.
