Luzama manchinazae is an orchid species identified by (Luer & Andreetta) Luer in 2006. Culture information and photos for this orchid are commonly detailed under the currently accepted name of Masdevallia manchinazae.
ORIGIN: Found in Ecuador and Peru in cool, moist intermontane valleys of the lower reaches of the dry sierra at elevations of 1750 to 1890 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Mini-miniature sized, caespitose epiphyte with 1 to 1 1/2 long, blackish, erect, slender ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular, sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, acute leaf that is cuneate below into the blackish petiole from which a slender, terete, 1 1/5 to 3 [3 to 7.5 cm] long, inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract with a single, large for the plant, flower held at leaf height all occurring in the spring. This species is separated from others by the V-shaped median furrow of the labellum which also has the lateral margins slightly revolute, the prominent purple veins on the sepals and the long caudae.
