Maxillaria parahybunensis is an orchid species identified by Cogn. in C.F.P.von Martius & auct. suc. (eds.) in 1904. Culture information and photos for this orchid are commonly detailed under the currently accepted name of Maxillaria ferdinandiana.
ORIGIN: This species comes from Brazil in cool shady montane forests at moderate elevations.
DESCRIPTION: This species comes from Brazil in cool shady montane forests at moderate elevations where it blooms on a short inflorescence occurring in the late spring and early summer with the flower held close to the pseudobulbs. This species can be either mounted on tree fern or potted with a tree fern mixture, given cold to cool temperatures, semi-shade and contant year round moisture. This species is very similar to M fernandina but this one is smaller in pseudobulb size and has some minor floral differences.
