DESCRIPTION: Found from Costa Rica, French Guiana, Surinam, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil as a medium to large sized, warm to cold growing, robust, variable, caespitose epiphyte in wet montane forests at altitudes of 600 to 2300 meters with a tapered ovoid-cylindric to pyriform, sulcate, dark green pseudobulb with 2 to 3 apical, narrowly oblanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, gradually narrowing below into the conduplicate, long petiolate base, ribbed, subcoriaceous leaves that blooms on a basal, 4 [10 cm] long, racemose, densly many flowered inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb with 4 to 6 distichous, imbricating, loose scarious bracts and small narrowly triangular floral bracts and holding the flowers just above the pseudobulbs but below the leaves all occurring in the summer and fall.
