Oerstedella ornata is an orchid species identified by Dressler in 1982. Culture information and photos for this orchid are commonly detailed under the currently accepted name of Epidendrum stolidium.
ORIGIN: Found in western Panama in wet montane forests at elevations around 1800 to 2500 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Medium to giant sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with branching near the apex with age, cane-like, terete, thin, erect to somewhat pendent stem carrying 7 to 12, throughout the apical half of the stem, alternate, articulate, subcoriaceous, lanceolate to narrowly ovate or oblong, acute apically leaves that blooms in the late summer and fall on a terminal, erect, terete, thin, 1.6 to 3 [4 to 7.5 cm] long including the .26 to 1.08 [.7 to 2.7 cm] long peduncle, racemose to paniculate, laxly to 22 flowered inflorescence with 2 to 7 simultaneous flowers and much shorter than the ovary, widely triangular, acuminate floral bracts.
