DESCRIPTION: Cool to cold growing, dwarf terrestrial with 2 leaves found in wet mountainous forests or pine bogs in acidic soil with glabrous then minutely pubescent stems with basal sheaths carrying 1 to 2, sessile, nearly opposite, ovate-deltate or triangular leaves and blooms in the summer and early fall on an erect, racemose, to 2 2/5 [6 cm] long, few to many [4 to 25] flowered inflorescence.
