ORIGIN: Found in the Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Yugoslavia and Greece in full sun in marshy mountain meadows, stream banks and seepages at elevations of 900 to 2400 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with a hollow stem carrying 3 to 7, cauline, spotted blackish violet on upper side, broadly oval to lanceolate, erect to spreading, often arched downwards, largest one broadest towards the upper third leaves that blooms in the later spring and summer on an erect, 1.2 to 4.8 [3 to 12 cm] long, dense 5 to 40 flowered inflorescence with floral bracts often far longer than the lower flowers.
