ORIGIN: Found in northern Fujian, southeastern Gansu, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Hubei, Hunan, Jianxi, Sichuan, southern Yunnan, Zhejiang, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam in shady locations in forests and along valleys at elevations of 100 to 1800 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small to medium sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with narrowly ellipsoid to oblong tubers giving rise to an erect, terete, stout stem carrying 5 to 6, elliptic-lanceolate, obovate-spathulate to narrowly elliptic, acuminate to acute apically, contracted and amplexicaul base leaves in the middle and 5 to 10 bract-like leaves above that blooms in the summer through early fall on an erect, ridged, villous, 3.6 to 9.2 [9 to 23 cm] long, 6 to 30 flowered inflorescence with ovate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.
