Orchid Species: Peristylus hallieri

Peristylus hallieri is an orchid species identified by J.J.Sm. in 1909.
ORIGIN: Found only in Borneo in lowland forests, open secondary roadside vegetation, rough mossy ground, landslips and sandy areas beside or on rocks in rivers as a small to medium sized, terrestrial orchid at elevations of 50 to 1600 meters.
DESCRIPTION: A small to medium sized, terrestrial orchid at elevations of 50 to 1600 meters as a small sized, hot to cool growing erect, tuberous terrestrial orchid with a stem carrying 12, basally arranged, narrowly elliptic, ensiform, acuminate, mucronate, 3 nerved, narrowing below into the leaf bearing sheath and blooming in the spring, summer and fall on a terminal, laxly many flowered, to 10.2 to 12 [to 26 to 30 cm] long, racemose inflorescence with several, non-floriferous bracts and narrowly ovate-elliptic, acuminate floral bracts.
FLOWER SIZE: To 3/4 inch [to 2 cm]
