Pleione longibracteata is an orchid species identified by (Hook.f.) Kuntze in 1891. Culture information and photos for this orchid are commonly detailed under the currently accepted name of Coelogyne cumingii.
ORIGIN: This species is from Thailand, the Malaysian penisula, Sumatra and Borneo in lowlands and lower primary and secondary montane forests at elevations of 300 to 2150 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte and sometime lithophyte with a creeping rhizome giving rise every 1.2 to 2 [3 to 5 cm], to ovate, weakly angled, acuminate pseudobulbs carrying 2, lanceolate, acuminate, glossy, plicate, 5 nerved, gradually narrowing below into the elongate, grooved petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring and summer on a terminal, erect to arcuate, 6 [15 cm] long, slender, 3 to 5 flowered, racemose inflorescence with fragrant, long-lasting flowers arising out of the center of a newly emerging pseudobulb.
