Pleione suaveolens is an orchid species identified by (Lindl.) Kuntze in 1891. Culture information and photos for this orchid are commonly detailed under the currently accepted name of Coelogyne suaveolens.
ORIGIN: Found in central China, Assam, eastern Himalayas and Thailand in lower montane, evergreen broad-leaved forests at elevations of 900 to 1500 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small to just medium sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with 1.2 to 2.4 [3 to 6 cm] between each ovoid, obtuse pseudobulb enveloped basally by a few sheaths and carrying 2, apical, elliptic-lanceolate, acute to acuminate, plicate, 9 nerved, coriaceous, margins undulate, gradually narrowing below into the elongate, grooved petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on a 6 [15 cm] long, fractiflex rachis, many flowered inflorescence arising on a newly emerging pseudobulb with deciduous floral bracts and successive opening, fragrant flowers with 2 to 3 open at any one time.
