Orchid Species: Pleurothallis allenii

Pleurothallis allenii is an orchid species identified by L.O.Williams in 1940.
ORIGIN: Found in central Panama at elevations of 550 to 1000 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Miniature sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 close, tubular sheaths and another below the middle carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, acute, sessile leaf that is narrowly cuneate basally into the base that blooms on an erect, short, single flowered inflorescence arising from a spathe that holds the flowers at mid leaf occurring in the spring, summer and fall.
