Orchid Species: Pterostylis parviflora
(This name is currently accepted by Kew.)
Pterostylis parviflora is an orchid species identified by R.Br. in 1810.
ORIGIN: Found in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia at elevations of 10 to 900 meters occurring in open forest, heathy woodland in a variety of soils from sandy to red clay-loam.
DESCRIPTION: Miniature sized, cold to cool growing terrestrial orchid with small, globose tubers giving rise to an erect stem enveloped by a rosette of round, obtuse, petiolate base leaves when not in flower and blooms with an acute, sheath near the base and then 3 + small, elliptic, acute basally clasping leaves and one at the base of each recuring flower on a a 4 1/2 [11.25 cm] long inflorescence with 1 to 8, inward facing flowers occurring in the summer and fall and leaves that appear after blooming.
FLOWER SIZE: 2/5 inch [1 cm]
