DESCRIPTION: Found from Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru as a small sized, hot to cool growing, stout, ascending, 2 leafed epiphyte that occurs in wet montane forests at elevations of sea-level to 1500 meters with clustered, elliptic-oblong, slightly compressed, sulcate pseudobulbs enveloped basally by scarious sheaths that become leaf bearing towards the apex and carrying 2 to 3 apical, ligulate, obscurely bilobed apically, conduplicate below into the base leaves and blooms mostly in the spring and summer on a lateral, short to 1 1/2 [3.5 cm], single flowered inflorescence with flowers variable in size and color, arising from the sheath of a mature pseudobulb and is held amid the leaves.
