Orchid Species: Stelis bucaramangae

Stelis bucaramangae is an orchid species identified by (Luer & R.Escobar) Pridgeon & M.W.Chase in 2001.
ORIGIN: Found in Colombia on the eastern slope of the eastern Cordillera of the Andes in scrub forests at elevations around 3300 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small sized, cold growing epiphyte or terrestrial on road banks with fasciculate, relatively slender, erect ramicauls enveloped by a slender tubular sheath near the middle and 2 to 3 imbricating, sheaths at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on 1 to 2, stout, erect, 3.2 to 4.4 [8 to 11 cm] long, including the .4 to .8 [1 to 2 cm] long peduncle, densely and simultaneously many flowered racemose inflorescence arising through a slender spathe from an annulus at the base of the leaf and has tubular, enveloping the pedicel floral bracts.
