ORIGIN: Found in Taiwan, Guangxi, Hainan and Yunnan province of China, Assam, eastern Himalayas, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Java, Malaysia, Sulawesi, Sumatra, New Guinea, Fiji, New Caledonia, Samoa and Vanuatu on or near the tops of ridges in forests with deep humus at elevations of 800 to 1750 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small to just medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial orchid with conical to terete, dark green pseudobulbs enveloped basally by a sheath and carrying a single, apical, elliptical, plicate, acuminate, abruptly narrowing below in to the elongate petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on a purple, arising from the rhizome, to 28 [70 cm] long, several [12] flowered, racemose inflorescence with a few tubular basal sheaths and persistent, green, spreading, lanceolate-ovate, acute, floral bracts.
